Long day at Denny’s still leaves me short on cash
I worked like a dog and only have $24.21 to show for it. That’s right, twenty-four dollars and twenty-one cents. Eight hours crept by as I spent most of my morning—remember, it’s always morning in Denny’s—checking on empty tables.
Early into the shift the manager sent three servers home. For some reason I requested to stay on. I guess I figured people would see one of the wonderful commercials we seem to be running nonstop and come right on in to my Denny’s. Then, by the grace of the breakfast gods, they would request to sit in my section and leave me a 200% tip.
I suppose I was a tad optimistic. It didn’t pick up and by the time my break came around an hour before I was to clock out, I had $15 dollars cash. Ouch.
On the drive home I saw the same panhandlers I see every day at the same light. I figured, I am in desperate need of some good karma and so I rolled my window and handed the guy a single. Hopefully my luck will change tomorrow.
it IS ok to contact this poster with services or other commercial interests -- that's what this is all about!

Well…you could have been just laying around and not made any money, I suppose. I have a feeling, you’d make more money panhandling.

Is the $24.21 your tip total, or wage total?

Will you be working on the 9th, which is Denny’s free Grand Slam day? I’d love to have a first-person account of the carnage and chaos.

Your dollar probably helped the panhandler make his quota of $500.00 for the day!

Pan handler.
Do the math.
Let’s say the light changes every minute.
On avg. every other light he recieves a dollar.
So he made more money in 1 hour than in your 8.
God Bless America

My kid panhandles when she is broke – - she “made” over $200 in less than an hour.
if only there was a panhandeling ad on Craigslist, eh?
